VIDEOTAPING OF STUDENTS

The district uses video cameras to insure the health, welfare and safety of all staff, students and visitors to district property, and to safeguard district facilities and equipment.  Video cameras may be used in locations as deemed appropriate by the superintendent.  Video recordings may become a part of a student’s educational record.  “Audio” may be part of the videotaping.

 

VISITORS

Parents and others are welcome to visit school.  For the safety of those within the school, all visitors must first report to the office.  Visits to individual classrooms during instructional time are permitted only with approval of the principal and teacher and so long as their duration or frequency does not interfere with the delivery of instruction or disrupt the normal school environment.

 

SUNBURST COMPUTER/INTERNET/INTERACTIVE TV ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

 

Computers and interactive television (ITV)equipment are provided to connect people and information in support of Sunburst School’s educational mission.  Access to computers, the Internet and ITV resources are privileges offered to staff, students, and community members as determined by the administration and technology committee.  Telecommunication equipment and computers are to be used for educational purposes, defined as purposes directly related to a school assignment, project, or function for which the use is responsible.

 

Every user is expected to act in a responsible, ethical and legal manner, in accordance with the Sunburst Acceptable Use Policy (including the User Responsibilities described in the following document), the guidelines of the networks they use, and other applicable state and federal regulations.  Sunburst School enforces this Policy at all times.  Staff members are responsible for setting and conveying the standard that students should follow.  Each student will be taught acceptable computer use in school and every user is requires to follow the rules and sign an agreement indicating so.

 

Sunburst computer and Internet privileges will be made available only to those agreeing to the User Responsibilities described herein.  Once agreed to, violation of the Acceptable Use Policy may result in restricted access or loss of privileges, at the discretion of the teacher and school administration.  If necessary, disciplinary and/or legal action will be enforced.

 

Sunburst Public Schools will enforce the following discipline policy which is based on Statute 45-6-311, Montana Code Annotated.

 

First Offense:   Nine weeks restricted access from all computers or telecommunication equipment with access only during class time.  One day of in-school suspension. Repayment of technical support costs.

 

Second Offense: Permanent restriction from all computers or telecommunication equipment with access only during class time.  One day out-of-school suspension.  Repayment of technical support costs.

 

Third Offense: Long term out-of-school suspension or a hearing before the School Board with a recommendation for expulsion.  Referral to legal authorities for possible criminal charges under School law 45-6-311.  Repayment of technical support costs.

 

Severity Clause: If circumstances warrant, perpetrators may be subject to third offence consequences without having gone through steps one and two of the above stated policy upon the recommendation of the Principal or Superintendent after consulting with the instructor.

 

ACCEPTABLE USER POLICY

Sunburst Computer, Internet, and ITV Responsibilities

 

 

 1.  I agree to uphold Sunburst School community values and represent Sunburst School positively as I use electronic communications.

 

 2.  I will respect the privacy of all information on computers and the Net (internet).  I will not attempt to read, delete or modify files belonging to other users.  Nor will I attempt to gain unauthorized or illegal access to resources on the computer or internet.

 

 3.  I will not copy or transfer any copyrighted software on workstations or on the Net without appropriate permission.

 

 4.  I will act responsibly to help to help ensure safe computing and I will not intentionally introduce a virus on a workstation or the Net.

 

 5.  I will not write, produce, or generate any computer code or message on the Net that might disrupt or adversely affect any Net users or resources.

 

 6.  I will not use the computer or ITV system to annoy, hinder or harass other users.

 

 7.  I will not use inappropriate, obscene, abusive, threatening language, or gestures; nor will I transmit, store or print obscene or pornographic text or images.

 

 8.  I understand that I am using the net at my own risk.  Sunburst School assumes no responsibilities for :

a.  The content of any advice or information received by a user from a source  outside Sunburst, or any costs incurred as a result of seeing or accepting such advice.

 

b.  Any consequences of service interruptions or changes, even if these disruptions arise from circumstances under the control of Sunburst School.

 

  9.  I agree to use all computer, Net, and ITV resources appropriately.  I will not authorize any other person to use my account or Net privileges.

 

10.  I will not give out my password or attempt to discover or use someone else’s login name or password.

 

11.  I will not tamper with or alter computers or associated equipment, including software.  I will report any problems to the teacher as soon as possible.  I will not knowingly allow others to abuse the system.

 

12.  I agree to be courteous by quitting applications and logging of on the system appropriately.  I also agree not to use finite resources wastefully including access fine on the Net.  I will keep my disk storage space at an acceptable level by regularly deleting unnecessary files.

 

13.  I understand that Sunburst School has the right to monitor student accounts, as necessary, to ensure smooth Net operations and acceptable use.  Quotas may be set for disk usage and access time.

 

14.  I will not use my account or the Net for financial or commercial gain.

 

15.  I agree to surrender my account and telecommunication privileges upon graduation or departure from Sunburst School, or as requested by the school administration as a result of a violation of the Sunburst Acceptable Use Policy.

After reading the Sunburst School Computer/Internet/Interactive TV Acceptable Use Policies and User Responsibilities please complete this form to indicate that you agree with the terms and conditions outlined.  Signatures are mandatory before access may be granted to use equipment and the Net.

 

As a user of Sunburst School District computers, Internet, ITV services, I have read and hereby agree to comply with the Sunburst School Computer/Internet/Interactive TV Acceptable Use Policies and User Responsibilities.

As a parent/legal guardian of the student signing above, I grant permission for my child to participate in Interactive TV and access computer services such as electronic mail and the Net.  I have read and agree to the Sunburst School Computer/Internet/Interactive TV Acceptable Use Policies and User Responsibilities, and I understand that I may be held responsible for violations by my child.  I understand that some materials on the Net may be objectionable; therefore, I agree to accept responsibility for guiding my child, and conveying to her/him appropriate standards for selecting, sharing and/or exploring information and media.
