Halvor Halvorson was born in Fayette County, Iowa. After completing his education he worked as a clerk in a General Store for four years. He then moved on to Minnesota, working his way Westward with the Railroad from 1888 until 1901. At this time he decided to locate in Cut Bank and he and his brother Henry opened a General Store on the corner of North Broadway (Central Avenue) and West Main Street. In March of 1911 he became the first Mayor of Cut Bank. In 1914 they moved the wood framed building further West on Main Street where it is currently being used as the "Golden Harvest Cafe." The Halvorson's then constructed a new brick building on the corner location known as the "Halvorson Building." Halvor passed away in October of 1925. |
