J. Hugo Aronson
1891 - 1978

     AKA "The Galloping Swede" was born in Sweden and immigrated
to New York in 1911. His oil field experience began in Sunburst in 1923. He started his own contracting and trucking business and moved it to the Cut Bank (Santa Rita) area in 1933.
     He bacame an alderman in Cut Bank in 1934. Became a State Representative from Glacier County and then served as a State Senator for eight years. He was elected to be Montana's thirteenth Governor in 1952. He was also elected to the National Governor's Executive Committee in 1954. He served as our governor until 1961.
     Hugo's oil field operations was very instrumental to the war efforts of WWII. Many of the old timers from here can still relate stories about him and his operations.
